17th Annual Workshop on the Pathology of Mouse Models for Human Disease

Location: The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor ME

This workshop provides a week of intensive training sessions in pathology and histopathology as well as didactic sessions in which particular disease areas and models will be discussed. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with a group of prominent mouse pathologists and geneticists from leading research institutions.

Topics and models to be covered include: nomenclature, basic mouse genetics, concepts of mouse model generation, approaches to working up mutant mice, role of pathologists at research institutions, systemic, hematopoietic, mammary, gynecologic, cutaneous, infectious and immune system pathology, embryology and cancer models.

Minimum qualification of M.D. or D.V.M. (or equivalent) is required.

Registration Fee: The $1200 fee includes all workshop materials, meals and shared lodging at the Highseas Conference Center. No money is due at time of application. Minimum qualification of M.D. or D.V.M. (or equivalent) is required.

Scholarships are supported by the March of Dimes Foundation, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, NIH grants, foundation awards and gifts or donations to The Jackson Laboratory.

To apply for a scholarship, select the "Visiting Attendee and Scholarship Application" participant type when you "Apply to Attend".

The Jackson Laboratory strongly encourages individuals who are from underrepresented populations to apply. Underrepresented populations are defined by the National Institutes of Health. (See also NIH NOT-OD-15-053 for definitions regarding under-represented groups).

For scholarship awards, first preference will be given to students, post-doctoral fellows, or junior faculty from populations under-represented in the biomedical sciences currently enrolled in, or working at, a U.S. institution.

Scholarship funds will offset a portion of the tuition and fees required to attend the educational program; in rare cases, scholarships will be awarded to cover the full registration fee. Funds will not be sent to scholarship awardees; rather funds are credited to applicants who register to take the course.

Scholarship applications require the following information:

A CV or resume
A written statement of financial need (100-250 words)
A written statement describing how the course/workshop will foster your academic or career objectives (100-250 words)

Travel Information

Shared Lodging accommodations will be at Highseas Conference Center, a spacious mansion built in 1912, overlooking the entrance to Frenchman Bay and adjacent to beautiful Acadia National Park. Transportation will be provided from the conference center to the course venue for the duration of the course. Highseas cannot accommodate families. Please refer to the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce for off-campus lodging alternatives.

Car

Bar Harbor is approximately 6 hours by car from the greater Boston area.
