Modeling Hearing and Balance Disorders in Mice: The HEar@JAX Workshop

This workshop provides an intensive, hands-on, training opportunity for graduate students, postdocs and investigators wishing to gain expertise in the biology and functional characterization of the mouse auditory and vestibular systems. The total number of positions available for the workshop is small in order to provide opportunities for communication and interaction between students and faculty.  The course is structured with classroom lectures in the morning, followed by hands-on laboratory sessions and tutorials in the afternoon. Evening lectures will feature plenary presentations by senior researchers and introductions to cutting edge technologies.  A central theme of the workshop will be the use of the mouse as a model system for understanding normal and disordered human auditory and vestibular function. In addition to formal class and laboratory activities, the workshop also offers opportunities for interactions between students and established investigators from several disciplines.  Students and faculty dine together and are housed in the same conference center.  Students will also have opportunities to present their own research and there will be dedicated time for discussions of  potential career opportunities.
Lectures will be offered in the Highseas Conference Center, and hands on sessions will be held at The Jackson Laboratory main campus in the Applied Genetics Training Laboratory.
