Women X Women

Female scientists have shaped scientific discovery at The Jackson Laboratory and beyond for decades. Join us for an exploration of the unique health issues that women and those assigned female at birth (AFAB) face and a celebration of the critical role that women play in science.

During the 2024 Women X Women event JAX scientists shared their research into the unique health issues that women and those assigned female at birth face and we celebrated the critical role of women in advancing scientific discovery. Highlights included:

  • Elise Courtois emphasized her efforts to better understand endometriosis at a cellular level, and her groundbreaking partnership with the state of Connecticut to raise awareness and resources for continued research.
  • Ewelina Bolcun-Filas shared the promising discoveries her lab has uncovered to improve fertility preservation after cancer treatment.
  • Beth Dumont explored the world of genetic diversity and the factors (genetics, environmental, assisted reproductive technologies) that contribute to mutations.
  • Silke Paust presented on the topic of immunotherapies, specifically the role of white blood cells knows as "natural killer cells" in treating pancreatic cancer.

A recording of the event can be found below and you can read a Q&A with the scientists here. Stay tuned for updates on the 2025 Women X Women event. Together, we are making a difference and shaping a brighter future.
