Rethink, reprioritize and rebuild

Ensure Research Resiliency

We understand that in today’s world you are being faced with new challenges and, therefore, require new solutions. When the pandemic started, we remained open, continued to offer a steady supply of mice including common strains such as NSG and B6, refrained from any 2020 price adjustments, and worked with clients to develop continuity and resiliency plans. To learn more about JAX’s response to the pandemic, we invite you to explore our response page.

We understand everyone’s situation is different, and we’re here to help. Together, we invite you to work with us to rethink, re-prioritize, and rebuild as you create your own resiliency plans that will keep your business thriving no matter what comes your way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you testing the mice colonies for COVID-19?

We are considering testing the mouse colony by PCR for SARS CoV-2 through random sampling of mice once the colony is fully established and the PCR assay is validated for mice. The personnel working in the mouse room are dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE) that includes a PAPR, mask, gloves, frock, dedicated shoes with booties, and dedicated surgical scrubs. This extensive PPE protects both the mice and the personnel from infections. All cage changes and cage openings are performed under a laminar flow hood with appropriate disinfection procedures. Mice are handled with disinfected forceps. It is highly unlikely that the mice will be infected under our rigorous biosecurity processes.

How long does it take to cryorecover a strain?

JAX successfully cryorecovers over 2,500 strains/year from mouse sperm and embryos! Recovery is completed in 9-14 weeks, with an average yield of 10 or more pups. All mice produced are specific and opportunistic pathogen free (SOPF). We are happy to work with you to deliver the exact cohort size you need, large or small. We ask that you fill out the form below so a JAX representative reach out to begin discussing your project and timelines, ensuring you can get back to your research quicker.

Are there any expected delays for readily-available strains at JAX, such as C57BL/6J, NSG™, or BALB/c mice?

No. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic JAX has continued all operations and, as a result, our inventory of readily-available strains like C57BL/6J, NSG™, and BALB/c have not been impacted and are available when you are. We are committed to ensuring access to the right model at the ideal age and preferred sex. For updates on an existing order, or to have your order placed, please email us at orderquest@jax.org. Researchers can pre-order mice without an anticipated ship date.

Are there expected delays for the uncommon strains?

No. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic JAX has continued all operations and, as a result, our inventory of unique strains has not been impacted and are available when you are. We are committed to ensuring access to the right model at the ideal age and preferred sex. If there are strains you will need as you move forward, we ask you to share them with your JAX representative. We will work with you to ensure that when you are ready, we can help you rebuild your colony. For updates on an existing order, or to have your order placed, please email us at orderquest@jax.org.
