A prescient perspective on pandemic preparedness

An article by Ed Yong published in The Atlantic provides an excellent look at what pandemic preparations looked like in 2018, before there was an active epidemic/pandemic situation like  What are coronaviruses and how do we develop new treatments_? Understanding SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19 and moreCOVID-19 and provides a good look at the international infrastructure that’s in place to deal with the current outbreak.

Yong writes: “Last year, with the centennial of the 1918 flu looming, I started looking into whether America is prepared for the next pandemic. I fully expected that the answer would be no. What I found, after talking with dozens of experts, was more complicated—reassuring in some ways, but even more worrying than I’d imagined in others.”
