My research broadly focused on understanding pathological mechanisms & identifying novel therapeutic targets of cardiac diseases. During PhD training at U of Alberta, Canada in Dr. Zam Kassiri lab, my research work focused on cardiac fibrosis, in particular identifying novel functions & therapeutic potential of tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (TIMPs) in heart diseases such as ischemic cardiomyopathy, pressure overload cardiomyopathy, ischemia-reperfusion injury. My post-doc training at Montreal Heart Institute, Canada in Dr. Stanley Nattel lab, focused on investigating novel mechanisms of atrial fibrosis & arrhythmias in cardiac cell types & heart failure. I have been supported with Canadian provincial & federal funding agencies (CIHR, FRQS, AIHS) during my PhD & postdoc trainings. At my current position at JAX-GM, I am an integral member of team Dr. Travis Hinson, with an aim to identifying novel, fundamental mechanisms of genetic cardiomyopathies.
