The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), a nonprofit biomedical research institution, announced today the appointment of Emily Schorer as chief human resources officer (CHRO).
As CHRO, Schorer will lead all human resources operations for the institution’s workforce which includes more than 2,200 employees across campuses in Bar Harbor and Ellsworth, Maine; Farmington, Conn.; Sacramento, Calif. and Shanghai, China.
In her role, Schorer will oversee organizational and cultural development, talent acquisition, training and development, workforce and succession planning, human resources information systems and benefits and wellness. She will be based out of the Laboratory’s Bar Harbor campus.

Most recently, Schorer was senior vice president of Human Resources for Cape Cod Healthcare in Massachusetts, the leading healthcare services provider and largest employer on Cape Cod, where she was responsible for directing system-wide human resources programs and services. Prior to Cape Cod Healthcare, Schorer worked for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for several years, last serving in the role of chief administrative officer.
She is a member of the corporation at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and a trustee of Riverview School, an independent boarding school for students with complex language and learning challenges.
