The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution, today announced that Thomas P. Ellis has been appointed to chief human resources officer. In this new role, Ellis will oversee the human resources and safety functions for the Laboratory.
“We are fortunate to have someone with Tom’s experience and energy to lead the human resources function moving forward,” said Katy Longley, executive vice president and chief operating officer, The Jackson Laboratory. “Tom is passionate about promoting JAX’s ‘People’ value and inspiring our employees to enhance their overall health and well-being.”
Ellis joined JAX in 2015 as director of total rewards and human resources systems. Immediately, he helped to implement several significant compensation initiatives and, more recently, led the design of the Laboratory’s health care and retirement plans.
Ellis has more than 10 years of experience leading various human resources functions for nonprofit organizations. He previously served as director of compensation for Delhaize America and Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, compensation manager at MaineHealth/Maine Medical Center, and led various operational teams at MBNA America Inc.
Ellis received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Maine and an MBA from Thomas College. He is a resident of Bar Harbor and currently contributes to his local community by serving as the Finance Committee Chair of the board of trustees of the Healthcare Purchaser Alliance of Maine.
