The Jackson Laboratory launches mouse Model Generation Services for more predictive models

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) today launched Model Generation Services to the global biomedical community. This comprehensive suite of genome editing technologies will enable custom-made mouse models for studying human disease.

Building on decades-long experience in mammalian genetics and mouse model generation, JAX has incorporated CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing into its capabilities for creating custom-built mouse models.

“CRISPR technology has transformed genetic engineering in nearly all biological systems,” said Edison Liu, M.D., President and CEO of JAX. “Applying this technique to build more predictive preclinical models and precise patient treatment strategies will be pivotal in developing the next generation of predictive models for the new era of personalized medicine.”

JAX Model Generation Services include:

  • CRISPR/Cas9 Model Generation: Rapidly develop knock out and knock in models on various genetic backgrounds, including historically difficult strain backgrounds, using CRISPR/Cas9 technology.
  • Transgenic Model Services: Overexpress novel gene constructs of any size in defined inbred strain backgrounds by pronuclear microinjection.
  • ES Cell Microinjection Services: Create large, targeted genomic mutations in various genetic backgrounds using traditional ES cell microinjection techniques.
