The Jackson Laboratory

Faculty Positions - Now Accepting Applications

Faculty positions at The Jackson Laboratory: Bar Harbor, ME

The Jackson Laboratory is inviting applications for Assistant and Associate Professors at our Mammalian Genetics campus in Bar Harbor, Maine.

JAX is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution. Faculty research focuses on genetic and genomic approaches to conduct basic and translational research on fundamental biological questions and associated disease processes. JAX is well-known for its deep expertise and innovation in mouse and human models. Researchers have the opportunity to combine these approaches with state-of-the-art, highly subsidized, professionally managed, shared scientific services and robust data science support.

We are seeking faculty pursuing multi-disciplinary approaches in the following general research areas:

Aging and age-related diseases

JAX faculty investigate the biology of aging across scales, from molecules and cells to whole organisms, using genetically diverse mice, mouse and human cellular models, and cutting-edge technologies to reveal mechanisms that drive healthspan and disease. Through strong regional and national partnerships, we are advancing translation by bridging mouse to human, pioneering precision geroscience that moves findings from preclinical studies to human applications. By targeting key intersections of aging with immunity, cancer, reproduction to accelerate strategies for prevention and intervention. We set new standards in basic aging research through AI-enabled, non-invasive phenotyping, spatial and molecular profiling, and open data platforms that empower the global community.

Systems Immunology

JAX faculty are seeking to understand how immune systems vary across individuals and how those differences influence health and disease outcomes. We are developing a systems-level understanding of immunity by integrating immunology with genomics, advanced mouse and cellular models and computational modeling. We investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms that shape immune resilience and immune dysfunction, enabling the discovery of biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and precision medicine strategies for cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders, and age-related immune decline. The goal is to achieve a predictive understanding of the immune system that will transform the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.

Computational Biology

JAX is home to internationally recognized information resources such as Mouse Genome Informatics.  Current computational research at JAX includes systems approaches to complex trait analysis, including genetic analysis of transcript and protein expression, spatial distribution and abundance as well as deep learning and neural network analysis of high-volume datasets from whole organism and cells that include genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, high resolution spatial and real time analysis. By aligning new mouse models of human disease with clinical genetics we are developing algorithms that maximize the translational potential of cross-organism bioinformatics.

Successful candidates must:

  • Hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree;

  • Have completed two to five years of postdoctoral training;

  • Have a record of significant research accomplishments; and present long-term research goals consistent with establishing and/or maintaining a highly successful research program.

Applicants should submit:

  • A curriculum vitae which includes the names of at least three references

  • A concise statement of research interests and plans
  • A cover letter
