Human gene editing policy

The Jackson Laboratory has established a policy statement, in line with the majority opinion of the biomedical research community, in support of the moratorium on attempts at clinical application of nuclear genome editing of the human germ line.

The Jackson Laboratory Guidelines for Human Gene Editing:

  1. The Jackson Laboratory and its scientists fully support and adhere to the moratorium on attempts at clinical application of nuclear genome editing of the human germ line. We believe that there are serious ethical and societal implications that must be considered and consensus achieved before these experiments are allowed to proceed.
  2. We expect all full and affiliated scientists at JAX to adhere to this moratorium and refrain from participating in research on the clinical applications of human germline gene editing.
