JAX® Mice Availability Information (Standard Supply Level Definitions)
We continually review and adjust inventory levels of our strains to keep pace with researchers' evolving needs. To help you plan your experiments, we have assigned each JAX® Mice strain a "standard supply level" to indicate the approximate quantities of mice that typically can be shipped from that colony during a fixed period of time (e.g., days or weeks).

About 1800 unique mouse models are available across most therapeutic areas. Breeding colonies fluctuate in size depending on current demand. If a strain is not immediately available, an estimated lead time will be provided in 2-3 business days. General considerations:
- Mice are typically delivered at 4-8 weeks of age
- Age requests are not guaranteed
- If cohorts of mice are needed at a specific age range for experiments, inquire with Customer Service for feasibility

Cryorecovery Available
JAX® Mice strains with limited and infrequent demand are maintained in a cryopreserved state. Typically mice are recovered in 11-14 weeks. Contact Customer Service to place an order or for more information.

Price-Per-Mouse
- Eligible strains will feature a Price-Per-Mouse identifier button in the order box of their strain data sheet.
- Cryorecoveries offered under the Price-Per-Mouse program can be scaled to provide a desired number of carriers instead of JAX's historical minimum of two mice.
- A minimum of two mice must be ordered. Additional mice will be charged on a per-mouse basis.
Strains that can be genotyped or do not require genotyping.
We will fulfill your order by providing at least two carriers for each strain ordered. If the strain is on a mixed genetic and an approximate control is not available or the strain does not require genotyping (i.e. inbred strains), we will provide at least 2 pairs of mice. The total number, gender and genotypes provided will vary, although typically 8 or more animals are provided.
- Please check genotypes which will be recovered. While the genotypes of all animals produced will be communicated to you prior to scheduling shipment, the genotypes of animals provided may not reflect the mating scheme and genotypes described in the strain description.
- Animals are typically ready to ship in 11-14 weeks. If a second recovery is required to produce the minimum number of animals, then delivery time would increase to approximately 25 weeks.
- If we fail to produce animals of the correct genotype, you will not be charged.
- We cannot guarantee the reproductive success of mice shipped to your facility. If the mice are lost after the first three days (post-arrival) or do not produce progeny at your facility, a new order and fee will be necessary.
Strains for which a molecular genotyping assay is not available. We will fulfill your order by providing at least two untested males and two untested females (two pairs). The total number of animals provided, their gender and genotype will vary, although typically 8 or more mice are provided.
- Untested animals typically are available to ship between 10 and 14 weeks from the date of your order. If the first recovery attempt is unsuccessful, a second recovery will be done, extending the overall recovery time to approximately 25 weeks.
- Progeny testing may be required – If recovered animals do not display a phenotype, progeny testing will be required. This testing involves breeding the recovered animals and assessing the phenotype of the offspring in order to identify animals carrying the mutation of interest.
- Please note that identified pairs may not reflect the mating scheme utilized by The Jackson Laboratory prior to cryopreservation of the strain. Mating schemes are sometimes modified for successful cryopreservation.
- We cannot guarantee the reproductive success of mice shipped to your facility. If the mice are lost after the first three days (post-arrival) or do not produce progeny at your facility, a new order and fee will be necessary.
For strains requiring specialized phenotyping
At least two untested males and two untested females (two pairs) will be recovered from cryopreserved stocks and will require specialized phenotyping in order to identify animals carrying the mutation of interest. We do not perform the phenotyping for this strain. Untested animals typically are available to ship between 10 and 14 weeks from the date of your order. We will ship you all of the recovered mice (a minimum of two pair, typically eight or more). We cannot guarantee that you will receive or be able to identify animals of the phenotype of interest. Please be advised that a new order and cryorecovery fee will be necessary to recover additional mice, if needed. Because recovery efficiency and viability can vary, a second cryorecovery sometimes may be required in order to complete this order, which may extend the time for order completion to 25 weeks. If this situation occurs, we will notify you of the delay.
