What We Do
Scientific Instrument Services is the go-to technical resource for expertise in scientific instrumentation, equipment repair, automated liquid handling, and custom fabrication. We also support day-to-day research activities at JAX by providing and expertly maintaining shared scientific equipment.
Services and Technologies Offered
- Shared scientific equipment: scientific equipment that is accessible to all JAX scientific personnel.
- Scientific Equipment Repair Service: repair and maintenance of lab electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and optical equipment.
- Automated Liquid Handling Support Service: script writing, liquid class development and optimization, labware definitions, validations, and trainings to completely integrate automation into lab workflows.
- Fabrication Service: custom-made devices, tools, and assemblies designed using computer-aided design (CAD) and fabricated using computer numerical control (CNC) routing and 3D printing.
- Glassware Service: cleaning and sterilization of lab glassware and utensils; full service is offered at the Bar Harbor campus, while the Farmington campus provides a self-service facility.
