Michael Ellis, Ph.D., is Vice President, JMCRS Research & Development, where he leads the development and expansion of innovative products, technologies, and scientific platforms that enable researchers worldwide to accelerate discovery and translation. He is responsible for shaping R&D strategy across a diverse portfolio of solutions spanning in vivo, in vitro, and in silico platforms.

In this role, Ellis works closely with JAX research faculty, JAX Japan, and a global network of academic and industry collaborators to translate cutting‑edge science into market‑leading products and services that support rigorous, reproducible research across therapeutic areas.

Since joining JAX in 2016, Ellis has held leadership roles of increasing scope across product management, analytics, strategy, and research and development. He has led multidisciplinary teams through the full innovation lifecycle - from early concept and platform development through commercialization - delivering new capabilities that drive scientific insight, operational efficiency, and customer value at scale.

Prior to JAX, Ellis held progressively senior leadership positions in the medical device industry, where he directed global growth initiatives and led the development and commercialization of advanced implantable medical technologies. His experience spans innovation strategy, product and process development, and global market deployment within highly regulated, technology‑driven environments.

Ellis holds a doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Bucknell University.
