Expanding precision medicine education to strengthen care teams nationwide

Through a new partnership with The France Foundation, JAX is broadening continuing education access for physician assistants and strengthening collaborative care nationwide.

As precision medicine reshapes healthcare, delivering the right education to the full clinical care team has become just as important as delivering the right treatment to the right patient.

At The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), that belief is driving a new expansion in continuing medical education (CME) offerings. Through a new partnership with The France Foundation, a nationally recognized provider of jointly accredited continuing education, the JAX Clinical Education team is now offering jointly-accredited continuing education for physician assistants (PAs); broadening access to professional learning opportunities that support precision medicine and team-based care.

“The France Foundation shares our commitment to empowering clinicians through education, and we're thrilled to work together to broaden access to precision medicine learning opportunities,” said Emily Edelman, director of JAX Clinical Education. “By combining our expertise, we can better support healthcare teams across disciplines and help ensure patients benefit from the latest advances in science and medicine.”

For more than 25 years, The France Foundation has delivered jointly-accredited education that helps multidisciplinary healthcare teams translate emerging science into improved patient care. This exciting new partnership offers JAX the opportunity to better support interprofessional learning and equip more clinicians with the tools needed to deliver precision medicine in real-world healthcare settings. The new offerings expand on JAX’s already robust programming of physician CMEs and continuing nursing education credits (CNEs), helping ensure that more members of the care team can learn together.

Education that reflects real-world care teams

The partnership enables JAX to offer education that better reflects how care is delivered in today’s healthcare environments. By combining JAX’s expertise in genomics and precision medicine with The France Foundation’s longstanding experience developing accredited education for multidisciplinary audiences, the collaboration creates new opportunities to reach clinicians across specialties and practice settings.

Every day across community clinics, regional hospitals and integrated care systems, PAs help coordinate care, guide patients through complex treatment decisions and connect specialized expertise to local communities. In many rural settings, they may be the most consistent point of care patients encounter, particularly in areas where access to specialists remains limited.

As precision medicine becomes more embedded in routine care, ensuring that the entire care team has access to high-quality, clinically relevant education is essential not only for providers, but for the patients and communities they serve.

“As precision medicine becomes a larger part of everyday patient care, it is essential that the entire healthcare team learns together. Shared education helps align clinical decision-making, strengthens collaboration, and ultimately leads to better patient outcomes,” said Heather Tarbox, director of education and compliance at The France Foundation.

Precision medicine depends on coordinated healthcare teams. Physicians, nurses, genetic counselors, laboratory specialists, pharmacists and PAs each contribute expertise that shapes patient outcomes. Educational programs that include the entire care team can help create stronger alignment across clinical workflows, improve communication and accelerate adoption of emerging approaches in genomics and precision health.

The France Foundation’s experience creating engaging educational formats complements JAX’s mission to translate complex scientific advances into practical knowledge clinicians can apply in patient care. Together, the organizations are working to make precision medicine education more accessible, relevant, and impactful.

Strengthening access to precision medicine

At a time when healthcare systems nationwide are grappling with workforce shortages and growing demands for specialized expertise, interprofessional education is increasingly important.

Clinicians are being asked to interpret increasingly complex diagnostic information, navigate new targeted therapies and help patients understand personalized treatment options. Educational models that support collaborative learning across professions can help healthcare teams adapt more effectively while ensuring patients benefit more quickly from advances in research.

Through collaborations with leading academic centers, medical societies and advocacy organizations, The France Foundation has built a reputation for delivering scientifically rigorous, clinically relevant education in trusted learning environments. Combined with JAX’s leadership in genomics and precision health, the partnership creates new pathways for expanding access to specialized knowledge beyond major academic medical centers and into community practices where many patients receive care.

“Every clinician should have access to the knowledge and tools needed to deliver precision medicine, regardless of where they practice,” said Edelman. “By broadening access to education, we can help ensure that patients benefit from advances in science no matter where they live.”

Rather than treating education as a one-size-fits-all offering, the new partnership recognizes the diversity of today’s healthcare workforce and the importance of meeting clinicians where they are.

Advancing precision medicine requires more than scientific innovation alone. It also requires empowering the people delivering care every day. Through this partnership, JAX and The France Foundation are helping ensure that clinicians across disciplines have access to the education and resources needed to bring the promise of precision medicine to patients everywhere.
