In these Flk1-myr::mCherry transgenic mice mCherry fluorescent protein expression is specific to endothelial cells (myristoylation targets the mCherry expression to the cell membrane).  Fluorescence is detected in embryonic endothelium and endocardium as early as 8.5 dpc, in ocular vessels and in capillaries of adult animals.  The donating investigator reports that this subline of founder line 1 has a single transgene insertion site and robustly expresses mCherry. Mice that are homozygous for the transgene are viable, fertile and have a higher transgene expression level than hemizygotes, resulting in brighter fluorescence.
