Description

Mice carrying this recessive re-mutation in the Dab1 gene are characterized by small size and abnormal gait.

Detailed description

Homozygotes can be recognized by two weeks of age by smaller body size, tremor, and leaning side-to-side gait. While some homozygotes die by three weeks of age, most live to adulthood. Poor marrow, thymic atrophy, and disorganization of the neurons of the brain were found in homozygotes.

Development

The scrambler 4 Jackson mutation arose spontaneously in the CBA/J inbred strain at The Jackson Laboratory in 2006 and has been maintained on this background ever since.
