Mice homozygous for this spontaneous and recessive remutation are recognized by their diluted gray coat color and white spotting that occurs randomly on both dorsal and ventral sides of the mice. Homozygous mutants live a normal lifespan and both sexes breed.
The recessive spotting like 2 Jackson mutation (rslk2J) arose spontaneously on the C57BL/6J background at The Jackson Laboratory in 2004 when that strain was at generation F225. It has been maintained on C57BL/6J.
|Allele Name||recessive spotting-like 2 Jackson|
|Gene Symbol and Name||rslk, recessive spotting-like|
|Strain of Origin||C57BL/6J|
|Molecular Note||This spontaneous mutation was shown by a complementation test to be allelic to the original rslk allele.|
