Mice homozygous for the shimmy 2 Jackson mutation have a shaking wobbling gait evident by 5 weeks of age and appear to vibrate when held by their tails.
The shimmy 2 Jackson mutation arose spontaneously in 2001 on B10.D1-H2q/SgJ when that strain was at generation F28. This strain has been maintained via sibling mating primarily homozygous females with heterozygous males.
|Allele Name||shimmy 2 Jackson|
|Gene Symbol and Name||shmy, shimmy|
|Strain of Origin||B10.D1-H2q/SgJ|
|Molecular Note||This mutation was shown to be an allele of shmy by complementation testing versus the original shmy mutation.|
Males homozygous for shimmy (shmy) do not breed, but males homozygous for the shimmy 2 Jackson re-mutation have been shown to breed, albeit with less success than female homozygotes.
