This strain expresses Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) under the direction of the endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tek, formerly, Tie2) promoter. Endothelial cells expressing GFP can be visualized via fluorescent microscopy or purified by FACS.
In an attempt to offer alleles on well-characterized or multiple genetic backgrounds, alleles are frequently moved to a genetic background different from that on which an allele was first characterized. It should be noted that the phenotype could vary from that originally described. We will modify the strain description if necessary as published results become available.
This strain originated on an FVB/N background, and was backcrossed to C57BL/6J for 5 generations using a speed congenic protocol. The C57BL/6J component of this speed congenic background is estimated at >95% via genome scanning.

Transgenic animals on the C57BL/6J background experience a 60% mortality rate in hemizygotes with the majority of death occurring at birth. Comparatively, this same transgenic line is available from The Jackson Laboratory on a STOCK background (stock number 003658), which is not subject to problems with mortality when maintained as a homozygote. Expected coat color: black
