Detailed description

Mice homozygous for the Tal1^tm1Sho mutation die between embryonic day 9.5 and 10.5. There is a complete absence of blood formation; no hematopoietic cells could be identified by appearance, histology, colony assays, or RT-PCR for lineage-specific products.

Development

The entire Tal1 coding sequence was deleted. Homozygotes express no normal mRNA transcript. The strain was developed on a mixed 129/Sv and C57BL/6J background.
