Keratin 5, also referred to as Cytokeratin 5, is a fibrous structural protein that is primarily expressed in epithelial basal cells. This protein has been implicated in organogenesis as well as tissue regeneration and repair. Mutations in the Krt5 gene have been associated with various cancers.
These CK5-DrePR transgenic mice express a DrePR fusion protein driven by a human keratin 5 (KRT5) promoter. Homozygous mice are viable and fertile. When these transgenic mice are bred with mice containing rox-flanked sequences, RU486-inducible Dre-mediated recombination will result in deletion of the rox-flanked sequences in the dre-expressing cells of the offspring. The donating laboratory confirmed Dre-recombination by crossing the CK5-DrePR transgenic mice to a R26-rox-stop-rox-LacZ reporter mouse line (<a href="https://www.jax.org/strain/https://www.mmrrc.org/catalog/sds.php?mmrrc_id=32653">MMRRC 032653-UCD</a>). Resulting progeny (BasLacZ) were dosed with RU486 for 5 consecutive days. One week after the final RU486 administration, tissues were examined for recombination events. DrePR activity was measured in ~15% of prostate basal cells but also a very low level of (~1.9%) of luminal cells.

CK5-DrePR transgenic mice express a DrePR fusion protein driven by the human keratin 5 (KRT5) promoter. When these mice are bred with mice containing a rox-flanked sequence of interest, RU486-inducible, Dre-mediated recombination will result in deletion of the rox-flanked sequences in the KRT5-expressing basal cells of the offspring. These mice may be useful when studying basal cell plasticity and differentiation.

Typically mice are recovered in 12-16 weeks. Contact Customer Service to place an order or for more information.
