Nav1.8-p2a-Dre knock-in mice have Dre recombinase inserted downstream of the STOP codon of the sodium channel, voltage-gated, type X, alpha (Scn10a) gene. Scn10a encodes a sodium channel that is exclusively expressed in sensory neurons. Mice that are homozygous for this allele are viable and fertile. When crossed with a strain containing a rox site-flanked sequences, Dre-mediated recombination will result in deletion of the roxed sequences in the Dre-expressing cells of the offspring. These Nav1.8-p2a-Dre mice allow recombination of rox sites specifically in sensory neurons. Homozygous mice are viable and fertile.
