The R26-LSL-Ngf-IRES-EGFP mice have a loxP-flanked STOP cassette followed by the murine nerve growth factor (Nfg) gene and an IRES-EGFP sequence. During gastric tumorigenesis, cholinergic stimulation of the gastric epithelium-induced NGF expression is believed to promote carcinogenesis. Mice that are homozygous for this allele are viable and fertile. The floxed STOP cassette prevents overexpression of Ngf and expression of IRES-EGFP until it is removed by Cre-mediated recombination. After Cre exposure, the donating investigator reports that the EGFP expression can be detected by either direct fluorescence or EGFP staining. When crossed to Tff2-Cre mice, NGF was expressed at a high level in the gastric epithelium leading to disturbed glandular architecture. Crosses with Vil1-Cre mice (Stock No. 021504) target Cre recombinase activity to the small and large intestine, resulting in increased nerve density in these organs primarily through axonogenesis. This mouse strain may be useful in studies of axonogenesis and also for the roles of innervation during tumorigenesis in many cancers.

The R26-LSL-Ngf-IRES-EGFP allele carries a loxP-flanked STOP cassette followed by the mouse nerve growth factor (Nfg) gene and an IRES-EGFP sequence. When bred to a strain expressing Cre recombinase under the control of cells/tissue-specific promoters, it allows Cre-dependent NGF overexpression and EGFP expression. Overexpression of NGF leads to axonogenesis and increased innervation in that target organ.

Typically mice are recovered in 12-16 weeks. Contact Customer Service to place an order or for more information.
