Med13lex15del mice have exons 15 deleted in the mediator complex subunit 13-like (Med13l) gene, resulting in a frameshift and early truncation at amino acid position 889. Med13l codes encodes a subunit of the large mediator complex which functions as a transcriptional regulator for most RNA polymerase II-transcribed genes. Mutations in this gene have been associated with a rare developmental disorder MED13L syndrome. Heterozygous are viable and fertile with no overt phenotype. Homozygous mice are perinatal lethal, as determined from heterozygous x heterozygous breeding (n=39). The donating laboratory notes that mRNA expression of heterozygous brain tissue by qRTPCR showed decreased expression indicative of nonsense mediated decay relative to endogenous wildtype controls. If additional characterization of these mice is performed, we may modify the strain description accordingly.
