Matrix Gla protein (MGP) is a vitamin K-dependent protein shown to be an inhibitor of calcification in the extracellular matrix (ECM). It is highly expressed in the smooth muscle cells of arteries, and in chondrocytes. MGP is also one of the most abundant genes in the trabecular meshwork, the eye tissue responsible for maintenance of intraocular pressure (IOP) and development of glaucoma. Widespread knock-out of the gene is lethal in mice. Exons 3 and 4 of the mouse Mgp gene, encoding 70% of the protein’s C-terminus (aa 12-104), are flanked by loxP sites in these CRISPR/cas9-generated Mgp.floxed mice. Cre recombinase-mediated excision of the floxed region results in a functional knock-out allele. A truncated, inactive product (predicted to be 31 aa, from which 19 aa comprise the signal peptide) is produced from the remaining exons 1 and 2.

Use of MICE by companies or for-profit entities requires a license prior to shipping.

Typically mice are recovered in 12-16 weeks. Contact Customer Service to place an order or for more information.
