Description

This strain provides a control model for identifying the alleles that contribute to the retinal neovascularization phenotype that Crb1^em2Boc contributes to on a C57BL/6J background but not on this DBA/2J background.

Detailed description

The phenotype of retinal neovascularization with early-onset multifocal depigmented retinal lesions that is found in B6.Cg-Crb1^em2Boc Jak3^m1J/Boc (Stock No. 031592) is not found in this DBA/2J congenic that is homozygous for Crb1^em2Boc but wildtype for Jak3. The retinas were found to be normal at both 4 weeks of age and six months of age. This strain provides a useful model for defining which alleles contribute to the retinal neovascularization phenotype that Crb1^em2Boc contributes to on a C57BL/6J background.

Development

The Crb1^em2Boc allele was generated in strain B6.Cg-Crb1^rd8 Jak3^m1J/Boc and this DBA/2J congenic strain was generated by continuously backcrossing the Crb1^em2Boc allele from B6.Cg-Crb1^em2Boc Jak3^m1J/Boc (JAX Stock No. 031592) onto DBA/2J. At N5 the pups were sibling intercrossed and this congenic strain was made homozygous by continuing to intercross genotyped homozygotes. Sperm was cryopreserved from homozygous males at generation N5F8.
