Odam (odontogenic, ameloblast associated) encodes a tooth-associated epithelia protein involved in odontogenesis and expressed in the junctional epithelium of the tooth. Odam-IRESCre knock-in mice have an IRES cre recombinase sequence inserted at the end of the stop codon of the Odam (odontogenic, ameloblast associated) gene. Expression of Odam is is not affected. Mice heterozygous for the mutation are viable and fertile, homozygotes have not been assessed. When these Odam-IRESCre mice are bred with mice containing loxP-flanked sequence, cre-mediated recombination will result in deletion of the loxP-flanked sequences in the teeth of offspring. These mice are useful for studying odontogenesis, periodontitis and tooth enamel.

Odam-IRESCre knock-in mice are designed to have the endogenous Odam promoter/enhancer regions directing expression of cre recombinase to the tooth, with minimal disruption to endogenous Odam expression. These mice are useful for studying tooth enamel and periodontitis.
