Uty (ubiquitously transcribed tetratricopeptide repeat containing, Y-linked) encodes a dosage-sensitive regulatory gene found in the male-specific portion of chromosome Y (MSY). Uty is expressed in all tissues and is an X-degenerate gene (having a counterpart (Utx) on chromosome X that escapes X-inactivation in females). This UtyGT gene trap allele has a beta-geo cassette inserted into intron 4 of the Uty gene, in addition, the strain has been backcrossed for more than 10 generations using only the female C57BL/6J host strain creating a chromosome Y consomic. The gene trap inactivates Uty. Males hemizygous for the mutation are viable and fertile and have a normal lifespan. RNA-Seq analysis of the UtyGT males identified multiple changes in mRNA transcripts in adult somatic cells. A control strain,&nbsp;C57BL/6J-Chr Y129P2/OlaHsd/CfdMmjax (MMRRC Stock No. <a href="https://www.jax.org/strain/035589"">067358</a>) has been developed for this strain.

UtyGT mice carry a gene trap mutation of the Uty (ubiquitously transcribed tetratricopeptide repeat containing, Y-linked) gene located in the male-specific portion of chromosome Y (MSY). These mice may be useful for studies of the effects of chromosome Y genes on the autosomal transcriptome in adult somatic cells.
