R26-O2CreER(T2) mice have a ROSA26 knock-in allele with the oxygen-dependent degradation (ODD) domain from human HIF1A (hypoxia inducible factor 1, alpha subunit) fused to a tamoxifen-inducible Cre recombinase gene (cre/ERT2). The HIF1A ODD contains prolines P401 and P564. Hydroxylation of these prolines results in degradation of the HIF1A protein. When expressed, the O2CreER fusion protein is degraded rapidly under physiologically normal conditions of tissue perfusion or oxygenation. The fusion protein is stabilized under the condition of hypoxia. The O2CreER mice can be crossed with mice carrying a floxed reporter gene for tamoxifen-inducible identification of hypoxic cells either during development or under pathological conditions such as hindlimb ischemia.

R26-O2CreER(T2) mice express the oxygen-dependent degradation (ODD) domain from human HIF1A fused with an inducible Cre recombinase gene, all inserted into the ROSA26 locus. In combination with a loxP-flanked reporter, progeny can be used as a tamoxifen-inducible hypoxia-sensing model.
