Il21r (interleukin 21 receptor) encodes a type I cytokine receptor for IL21 and is expressed on T, B and NK cells. It is involved in immunoglobulin production, B cell differentiation and Th17 differentiation. IL-21R knockout (KO) mice contain a neomycin cassette that replaces the signal peptide through the transmembrane domain resulting in a frameshift mutation. SJL/J mice are susceptible to B cell lymphomas resembling Hodgkin's disease, and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). The donating investigator indicates that homozygous female mortality is 50% by 40 weeks of age, with no female living beyond 60 weeks. Mice homozygous for the mutation are viable and fertile. Mice homozygous for the Il21r KO allele have been minimally characterized on the SJL/J background. In an attempt to offer alleles on well-characterized or multiple genetic backgrounds, alleles are frequently moved to a genetic background different from that on which an allele was first characterized. It should be noted that the phenotype could vary from that originally described.

SJL/Il21r-KO carry a knockout allele of the Il21r (interleukin 21 receptor) on the the SJL inbred strain background.&nbsp; SJL mice are susceptible to B cell lymphomagenesis.
