H60n Tg transgenic mice express a mouse H60a cDNA derived from BALB/c under the control of the chicken &beta;-actin promoter. The H60a minor histocompatibility gene encodes a cell surface glycoprotein with an &alpha; 1 and &alpha; 2 domain that is homologous to MHC class I and plays a role in the allogenic cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response. The H60a antigen is an 8 amino acid peptide (LTFNYRNL or LYL8) and is expressed on the hematopoietic cells of BALB/c and 129 inbred strains, but not C57BL/6. H60n Tg mice express the functional BALB/c H60a on the nonfunctional C57BL/6J background. Mice homozygous for the transgene are viable and fertile. This strain may be useful in studies of the minor histocompatibility gene H60a and T cell response.
