Col17a1 (collagen, type XVII, alpha 1) encodes the alpha chain of type XVII collagen. Collagen XVII is a transmembrane protein involved in the adhesion of keratinocytes to the basement membrane. Mutations in Col17a1 are associated with human junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB), a genetic condition that causes skin fragility and blistering. This TALEN-derived allele has a 10 bp deletion in exon 50. Mice heterozygous for the mutation are viable and fertile with no apparent phenotype. Homozygous mice die between 7 and 17 days. This strain may be useful for studying epidermolysis bullosa.

Notice regarding distribution of this strain.

These TALEN-derived mice carry a 10 bp deletion in exon 50 of the Col17a1 (collagen, type XVII, alpha 1). Homozygous mice die by 7-17 days of age. This strain may be useful as a model for human junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB).

A minimum of two mice must be ordered. Additional mice will be charged on a per-mouse basis. Click the “Details” button to learn more.

Our minimum guarantee for cryorecovery orders is 2 carriers. To ensure that your colony can be rapidly expanded upon arrival, additional carriers may be added to your order.
