Kif5aY279Y,R280C mice carry a CRISPR/Cas9-generated R280C (CGC to TGC) knock-in mutation and a silent Y279Y (TAC to TAT) in exon 10 of the mouse Kif5a (kinesin family member 5A) gene. Heterozygotes are viable and fertile. Homozygotes are not viable. The targeted Kif5a gene encodes a protein in a microtubule-dependent motor complex. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Spastic Paraplegia 10, Neonatal Intractable Myoclonus, and Susceptibility to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis 25.
