Mutations in MECOM (MDS1 and EVI1 complex locus) are associated with bone marrow failure. This complex locus produces four DNA-binding zinc finger protein isoforms from two widely separated transcriptional start sites. One isoform (MDS1-EVI1, or PRDM3) is exclusively expressed in hematopoietic stem cells (HSPCs) and plays an essential role in stress hematopoiesis. These Mds1-CreERT2 mice conditionally express tamoxifen-inducible Cre recombinase knocked into the first exon of Mds1, the upstream start of transcription for the mouse Mecom locus. Both heterozygotes and homozygotes are viable and fertile, but homozygotes are small, have kyphosis, and are less fertile than heterozygotes. In the hematopoietic system, Mds1 is exclusively expressed in the long-term and short-term hematopoietic stem cells making this a valuable and unique tamoxifen-inducible Cre allele.

Mds1-CreERT2 mice conditionally express tamoxifen-inducible Cre recombinase knocked into the first exon of Mds1, the upstream start of transcription for the mouse Mecom locus. Cre recombinase is expressed from the MDS1-EVI1 isoform in the long-term and short-term hematopoietic stem cells upon tamoxifen induction.

Typically mice are recovered in 12-16 weeks. Contact Customer Service to place an order or for more information.
