Description

OMP-GCaMP3 mice express GFP reporter in response to calcium transients in olfactory neurons of the vomeronasal epithelium.

Detailed description

OMP-GCaMP3 transgenic mice express green fluorescent protein (GFP) calcium indicator GCaMP3 from the rat Omp (olfactory marker protein) promoter. This line expresses the transgene uniformly throughout the vomeronasal epithelium and shows no sign of reported cell toxicity. The mice are useful for functional studies of olfactory neurons. Homozygotes are viable and fertile, and without apparent phenotype.

Development

GCaMP3 (a genetically encoded calcium indicator derived from a fusion of green fluorescent protein (GFP), calmodulin, and M13 myosin light chain kinase peptide) is expressed from the rat Omp promoter in this transgenic line. The linearized transgenic vector was injected into C57BL/6 x DBA/2J F1 embryos. Resultant mice were backcrossed once to C57BL/6J by the donating laboratory. The transgenic copy number and insertion site have not been determined.
