The Tbx4 (T-box 4) gene belongs to a family of transcription factors involved in development and, in particular, hindlimb development. Mutations in Tbx4 are associated with small patella syndrome and pulmonary hypertension. These Tbx4cond conditional knock-out mice possess loxP sites flanking exon 5. When bred to mice that express tissue-specific Cre recombinase, resulting offspring will have exon 5 deleted in cre-expressing tissues. Removal of the floxed sequence creates a null allele. These mice may be useful for studying the role T box genes in the development of the hindlimb and the allantois. When bred to mice expressing a tamoxifen inducible Cre recombinase with widespread expression, administration of tamoxifen prior to E7.5, results in embryonic lethality due to failure of chorioallantoic fusion. Administration of tamoxifen at E7.5, results in the formation of a visible limb bud, which degenerates by E11.5. Tamoxifen administration at later time points suggests a requirement for Tbx4 during initial stages of hindlimb development. The germline knock-out Tbx4 allele, Tbx4tm1.1Pa is available as MMRRC <a href="https://www.jax.org/strain/031493"">043811</a>.

These Tbx4cond conditional knock-out mice possess loxP sites flanking exon 5 of the Tbx4 (T-box 4) gene, a transcription factor involved in development and, in particular, hindlimb development.
