The targeted Ank2 gene encodes ankyrin 2, also known as ankyrin B, a membrane-associated scaffold protein that links integral membrane proteins to the cytoskeleton. Mutations in this gene have been associated with cardiac arrhythmia, ankyrin-B-related, and long QT syndrome 4. These mice possess loxP sites on either side of exon 24 of the targeted gene. Mice that are homozygous for this allele are viable and fertile. When these mutant mice are bred to mice that express Cre recombinase, resulting offspring will have exon 24 deleted in the cre-expressing tissues. Removal of the floxed sequence creates a null allele. When bred to a strain with Cre recombinase expression in oligodendrocytes, this mutant mouse strain may be useful in studies of neuronal paranodal junctions.

Ankyrin-B floxed mice possess loxP sites flanking exon 24 of the Ank2 gene. This strain may be useful for generating conditional mutations in applications related to the study of neuronal paranodal junctions, and localization and membrane stabilization of integral membrane proteins, such as ion transporters.
