CRISPR/Cas9 endonuclease-mediated genome editing of the Capn3, calpain 3, gene was used to introduce a 1759 nucleotide deletion knock-out mutation. The targeted Capn3 gene encodes a muscle tissue-specific protease. Mutations in this gene have been associated with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2A. 
 Homozygotes are viable and fertile (2020). As the mice are characterized, we may modify the strain description accordingly. 
 This mouse model was made in conjunction with Coalition to Cure Calpain3 foundation.
