This bacTRAP line incorporates an EGFP-L10a ribosomal fusion protein targeted to the translational start site of the Htr3a (5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) receptor 3A) gene. The fusion protein enables affinity purification of CNS cell-specific polysomal RNAs which can be used for gene expression profiling.

Serotonin receptor 3A (Htr3a) is expressed in scattered neurons in the cerebral cortex. The labeled cells are concentrated in the superficial layers of cortex and likely represent a subset of Gad1-positive interneurons. Scattered Htr3a-positive neurons are also observed in the hippocampus and amygdala and the transgene is observed in periglomerular cells in the olfactory bulb. Motor neurons in brainstem are also positive for Htr3a-Rpl10a. The expression pattern observed in the brain of this mouse line is a good match with known Htr3a in situ hybridization data.
