These Aclyf conditional knock-out mice possess loxP sites flanking exon 9 of the ATP citrate lyase gene, the primary enzyme responsible for the synthesis of cytosolic acetyl-CoA. When bred to mice that express tissue-specific Cre recombinase, resulting offspring will have exon 9 deleted in the cre-expressing tissues. 
Progeny produced by combining Aclyf mice and mice carrying the adipocyte specific (Tg(Adipoq-cre)1Evdr) transgenic mice exhibit lipid accumulation, increased acetyl-CoA and malonyl-coA production from acetate, and reduced de novo lipogenesis. These mice may be useful for understanding acetyl-CoA metabolic pathways.
