Exon 3 of the mouse Bdkrb2 (bradykinin receptor, beta 2) gene is flanked by loxP sites. Cre-mediated excision of the floxed region results in a knock-out allele.

When crossed with Hoxb7-cre mice (to target a knock-out to collecting ducts of the kidney and other cells of ureteric bud lineage), it was demonstrated that a deficiency of BDKRB2 does not directly cause salt-sensitivity as it relates to hypertension. High salt intake does not alter systolic blood pressure in the conditional Hoxb7-cre-derived knock-out mice. It does, however, attenuate the hypertensive actions of infused angiotensin II under conditions of very high salt intake.
