Mice homozygous for the apoliprotein E (Apoe) and amyloid beta precursor (App) knockout mutations exhibit traits observed in single KO mice such as: an increase in total plasma cholesterol levels, fatty streaks in the proximal aorta progressing to pre-atherosclerotic lesions, decreased weight, decreased motor activity and forelimb grip strength, and reactive gliosis.


On a high fat diet, double KO mice exhibit an attenuated lipid accumulation and increased collagen and muscle content.
This strain may be useful for studying the role of APP in plaque formation.

Use of MICE only available to non-profit entities.

Apoe App double knock-out mice exhibit several of the same characteristics as mice carrying the individual KO alleles. In double KO mice on a high fat diet, lipid accumulation is attenuated and collagen and muscle content is increased. This strain may be useful for studying the role of APP in plaque formation.
