Description

The Spot mutation causes white belly spots of varying sizes in heterozygotes. Some heterozygotes also have a curly tail, but this phenotype has incomplete penetrance. This spontaneous mutation has been mapped to an interval on Chromosome 1 that includes Pax3.

The Spot mutation causes white belly spots of varying sizes in heterozygotes. Some heterozygotes also have a curly tail, but this phenotype has incomplete penetrance. This spontaneous mutation has been mapped to an interval on Chromosome 1 that includes Pax3.

Development

Spot arose spontaneously in the shaky all over (sao) mutant subline of NOD.Cg-Il10^tm1Cgn/Dvs when it was at the N4 generation of backcrossing onto C57BL/6J and Il10^tm1Cgn had already been bred out. The Spot subline was then backcrossed away from sao through 2 additional generations of backcrossing to C57BL/6J during which the recessive sao phenotype was never observed. Nevertheless there is a small chance that sao might still be segregating in the cryopreserved sperm.
