Mice homozygous for the postaxial hemimelia 2 Jackson mutation have malformed, shortened forelimbs that are set at odd angles to the trunk such that they resemble flippers.  The humerus bone is usually shorter than normal and the digits on the front feet can be twisted, swollen, fused or missing or fused.  These deformities can cause an odd side-to-side gait.  Dark brown bumps protrude from the skin of the top surfaces of the paws.  Both males and females are sterile.  While the normal 25% mutants are generated from heterozygous intercrosses on this B6;C3Fe segregating background, when crossed to CAST/EiJ less than 9% of the offspring of heterozygous intercrosses were mutant.

This spontaneous mutation in <i>Wnt7a</i> provides a model for Fuhrmann syndrome, with malformed, shortened forelimbs, missing digits, darkened bumps on the skin of the upper paws, and sterility.
