Embryos homozygous for the mutation cannot be detected after embryonic day 2.5. Heterozygotes are born at the expected Mendelian ratio.

This mutant mouse strain may be useful in studies of early embryonic development.

Development

A gene trap vector (pGT2Lxf) containing the reporter gene lacz/neo (beta-geo) was inserted between exons 2 and 3. The construct was electroporated into 129P2/OlaHsd derived embryonic stem (ES) cells. Correctly targeted ES cells were injected into recipient blastocysts. The resulting chimeric animals were crossed to C57BL/6 mice and maintained as sibling matings before arriving at The Jackson Laboratory. The mice were then backcrossed to C57BL/6J for one generation.
