Description

Heterozygous mice show an increase in electroconvulsion, and no homozygous mice survive to birth.

Detailed description

On the C57BL/6J background no homozygotes were found to survive to birth, but on the 129S1/SvImJ background (stock #010917) approximately 10% of homozygotes survive, have a diluted coat color, and may have a more severe electroconvulsive seizure phenotype than Szt2^tm1Frk homozygotes. Heterozygotes have a slight increase in electroconvulsion over wild-type controls.

Development

The 129P2/OlaHsd derived mutant ES cell clone XH662 from Bay Genomics was microinjected into blastocysts at The Jackson Laboratory and a resultant chimera was crossed to C57BL/6J and backcrossing continued until generation N10 and then the strain was maintained by sibling intercross until 2009 when heterozygous sperm were cryopreserved.
