These Dlx5/6-Flpe mice have expression of Myc-tagged FLPe recombinase directed to GABAergic neuron populations in the forebrain. When bred with mice containing an FRT-flanked sequence, FLPe-mediated recombination will result in deletion of the FRT-flanked sequence in forebrain GABAergic populations of the offspring.

Hemizygous Dlx5/6-Flpe mice are viable and fertile, with expression of Myc-tagged FLPe recombinase directed to GABAergic neuron populations in the forebrain by the mouse Dlx5/Dlx6 (id6/id5) intergenic enhancer region and β-globin basal promoter. The donating investigator reports that no abnormal phenotype is observed in hemizygous mice. When bred with mice containing an FRT-flanked sequence, FLPe-mediated recombination will result in deletion of the FRT-flanked sequence in forebrain GABAergic populations of the offspring.
The Dlx5/6-Flpe transgene was designed with the intergenic enhancer region between the mouse Dlx5 and Dlx6 (id6/id5) locus together with a β-globin basal promoter, a chimeric intron containing a human β-globin splice donator site and IgHC variable region splice acceptor site, a Flpe site-specific recombinase with Myc tag (FlpeMyc) sequence, and SV40 early mRNA polyadenylation signal cassette. This transgene was microinjected into FVB/N mouse cells. Mice from founder line 39 were mated with outbred Swiss Webster mice for many generations. Dlx5/6-Flpe mice predominantly on an outbred Swiss Webster genetic background (and homozygous for the the retinal degeneration allele Pde6brd1) were sent to The Jackson Laboratory. Upon arrival, sperm from transgenic mice was cryopreserved. Some of the cryopreserved sperm was used to fertilize oocytes from FVB/NJ inbred mice (Stock No. 001800) to establish the Dlx5/6-Flpe colony. When maintained by breeding Dlx5/6-Flpe mice together or to FVB/NJ inbred mice, the Dlx5/6-Flpe mice should also be homozygous for the retinal degeneration allele Pde6brd1.

Molecular Note | The Dlx5/6-FLPe transgene was designed with the intergenic enhancer region between the mouse Dlx5 and Dlx6 (id6/id5, mI56i) locus together with a beta-globin basal promoter, a chimeric intron containing a human _-globin splice donator site and IgHC variable region splice acceptor site, a FLPe site-specific recombinase with Myc tag (FLPeMyc) sequence, and SV40 early mRNA polyadenylation signal cassette. This transgene was microinjected into FVB/N mouse cells. Mice from founder line 39 were mated with outbred Swiss Webster mice for many generations. |
When maintaining a live colony, transgene carrier mice may be bred to wildtype (noncarrier) mice from the colony.

The Jackson Laboratory has rigorous genetic quality control and mutant gene genotyping programs to ensure the genetic background of JAX® Mice strains as well as the genotypes of strains with identified molecular mutations. JAX® Mice strains are only made available to researchers after meeting our standards. However, the phenotype of each strain may not be fully characterized and/or captured in the strain data sheets. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a strain's phenotype will meet all expectations. To ensure that JAX® Mice will meet the needs of individual research projects or when requesting a strain that is new to your research, we suggest ordering and performing tests on a small number of mice to determine suitability for your particular project. We do not guarantee breeding performance and therefore suggest that investigators order more than one breeding pair to avoid delays in their research.
