Expression of the full-length mouse Mef2c (myocyte enhancer factor 2C) cDNA is driven by the cardiac-specific alpha myosin heavy chain promoter in this transgenic strain. A 1.6-fold increase in expression is observed in the heart by Western blotting. Mice develop a dilated cardiomyopathy and large atrial clots, consistent with a heart failure phenotype and poor ventricular function.
The mouse cardiac alpha myosin heavy chain (Myh6) promoter drives expression of full-length mouse Mef2c cDNA. The strain was created and maintained on an FVB background by the donating laboratory. This is line 2.

To ensure that JAX® Mice will meet the needs of individual research projects or when requesting a strain that is new to your research, we suggest ordering and performing tests on a small number of mice to determine suitability for your particular project. We do not guarantee breeding performance and therefore suggest that investigators order more than one breeding pair to avoid delays in their research.
