Description

The mouse Myh6 (myosin, heavy polypeptide 6, cardiac muscle, alpha) promoter drives expression of Ser189/193Ala mutant mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 3 (Map2k3). These mice develop a progressive, severe hypertrophic cardiomyopathy detected at two months of age.

Detailed description

The mouse Myh6 (myosin, heavy polypeptide 6, cardiac muscle, alpha) promoter drives expression of Ser189/193Ala mutant mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 3 (Map2k3). These mice develop a progressive, severe hypertrophic cardiomyopathy detected at two months of age. Histological staining reveals interstitial cell fibrosis and a significant increase in myocyte cross-sectional area by 4 months of age.

Development

The mouse cardiac alpha myosin heavy chain (Myh6) promoter drives expression of a dominant negative Ser189Ala/Ser193Ala form of mouse MKK3 (Map2k3). The strain was created and maintained on an FVB background by the donating laboratory.
